Current site measurement

The site uses PostHog for cookie-free page views, bounded interaction events, and field Core Web Vitals. Measurement covers the main site, the Quantitative Markets & Institutions Lab, and Theoria. It does not identify visitors, set analytics or advertising cookies, capture form values, record sessions, use heatmaps, enable vendor click autocapture, or create person profiles. Do Not Track is respected. PostHog is configured to discard stored client IP data. The hosting provider may still process standard request logs for security, reliability, and delivery.

Measurement scope

Measurement includes page views; navigation, research, writing, featured-work, contact, outbound, social, and document-download actions; interface controls; newsletter attempt, success, and confirmation stages; 25, 50, 75, and 90 percent page-depth milestones; 10, 30, 60, and 180 seconds of active visible-page time; and Core Web Vitals. Events contain only a defined event name, normalized path or destination label, coarse viewport class, and the relevant bounded metric. URL queries and hashes are removed, full referrer URLs are discarded in favor of the referring domain, and email addresses, form contents, confirmation tokens, typed text, and direct identifiers are excluded. Local development and preview deployments do not send production analytics.

Email and newsletters

Email sent through the contact link is handled by the sender’s and recipient’s email providers. For the newsletter, the site stores an email address, consent time, confirmation status, and short-lived hashed confirmation token in a first-party Supabase database. Postmark sends the confirmation and future newsletter delivery. An address is not active until the reader confirms it. Broadcast messages include Postmark’s unsubscribe controls; an unsubscribe prevents future broadcasts from that stream.

Newsletter broadcasts use Postmark’s delivery, open, and link-click tracking. The private newsletter database records delivery events, whether a message was opened, and whether a link was clicked. Stored link destinations omit query strings. Open measurement relies on a small image request and may be affected by image blocking or privacy-proxy behavior; it is an estimate rather than proof that a message was read. Newsletter activity is not sent to the site’s PostHog analytics project.
